Gym memberships

A church member owns a gym and would like to give memberships to our pastoral staff, they want me to show this as a donation for tax purposes. Is this permissible?

Depending on the policy by your church as to how and where to record noncash donations, a good suggestion might be to send a letter acknowledging the gift of gym memberships to the clergy. Do not put a value on the letter, then whether the owner of the gym can use this as a tax donation then becomes his red wagon to pull.

If you want to DIY your payroll, I highly recommend you look at using Gusto! It is very user friendly and their support is awesome! Plus they know how to set up and maintain payrolls for churches and nonprofit organizations.

Note: I am a "partner" of Gusto, but as I have told you before ... I never recommend anything that we or our clients have not tried and love =)
