The company pays for our Pastor's retirement plan, do I check the retirement box or leave blank?

Mark this checkbox if the employee was an active participant(for any part of the year) in any of the following:

(1) a qualified pension, profit-sharing, or stock bonus plan described in section 401(a) (including a 401(k)plan);

(2) an annuity contract or custodial account described in section 403(b);

(3) a simplified employee pension (SEP) plan; or (4) a SIMPLE retirement account.

If you want to DIY your payroll, I highly recommend you look at using Gusto! It is very user friendly and their support is awesome! Plus they know how to set up and maintain payrolls for churches and nonprofit organizations.

Note: I am a "partner" of Gusto, but as I have told you before ... I never recommend anything that we or our clients have not tried and love =)
