Clergy pays own health insurance premiums.

Is the amount a clergy pays for personal health insurance allowed as an allowance just like his housing allowance?

Clergy housing allowances are treated as exclusions from his/her income as listed in box 1 of the W-2 form. His/her health insurance would not be treated as an exclusion from income; it would be listed on Sch. A by him/her as an itemized deduction when filing their 1040 federal income taxes.

If you want to DIY your payroll, I highly recommend you look at using Gusto! It is very user friendly and their support is awesome! Plus they know how to set up and maintain payrolls for churches and nonprofit organizations.

Note: I am a "partner" of Gusto, but as I have told you before ... I never recommend anything that we or our clients have not tried and love =)
