Can you deduct Parsonage Related Expenses

by Becky
(Georgia)

I live in a church parsonage, but do not receive an allowance for utilities/expenses. I report the fair market rental value on form SE. Can I deduct the utilities/expenses on SE?

No. Your employing church would have had to designated a housing allowance for you.

See this informative guide from GuideStone What happens if a church forgets to designate a housing allowance?

Hope this helps,

If you want to DIY your payroll, I highly recommend you look at using Gusto! It is very user friendly and their support is awesome! Plus they know how to set up and maintain payrolls for churches and nonprofit organizations.

Note: I am a "partner" of Gusto, but as I have told you before ... I never recommend anything that we or our clients have not tried and love =)
