Salary and housing allowance

We pay our Pastor 400 weekly and 300 month housing allowance. His housing is more than 300 month. Do we show wages the amount paid and housing allowance 3600 yearly. Or do we show actual housing allowance pastor incurred

HOw do you get the housing allowance to populate in box 14? We have it as a separate payroll item but it is being combine with his wages and nothing in box 14. How do I fix that?

The actual housing allowance is not for you to figure out. The pastor is to keep ALL receipts and expenses that he incurs for housing expenses and it is all calculated when he files his yearly income taxes.

In addition, his salary can be adjusted yearly as well as his housing allowance to accommodate any fluctuations in cost of living or his actual expenses.

Either way, it will probably never be accurate because those expenses change from month to month and year to year.

The W-2 form for your qualifying minister? Box 1=$20,800 ($400 X 52). Box 14 $3600 H.A. (optional). Would not include his/her actual expenses

If you want to DIY your payroll, I highly recommend you look at using Gusto! It is very user friendly and their support is awesome! Plus they know how to set up and maintain payrolls for churches and nonprofit organizations.

Note: I am a "partner" of Gusto, but as I have told you before ... I never recommend anything that we or our clients have not tried and love =)
