Renting out personal dwelling property and housing allowance filing?

I have the housing allowance, but I also rent out rooms from my house. How should I file?

Vickey's reply

I am not sure. I believe you would just report your housing allowance on your Schedule SE and your rental income on your Schedule E.

However, I do not think you could claim any of the housing expenses you excluded with your housing allowance on your Schedule E or...

you could not exclude the housing expenses on your Schedule SE that you included as expenses on your Schedule E.

In your case, I believe it would be very beneficial to consult a tax professional.

I found the answer to your question today while studying the IRS's Minister's Audit Technique Guide. http://www.irs.gov/Businesses/Small-Businesses-&-Self-Employed/Minister-Audit-Technique-Guide

The answer is in example 6 under The Parsonage Allowance.
