Love Offering and Taxes

If a love offering is given to our Pastor from our church account.... how can we report this as non-taxable gift or can we? Should our Pastor have to pay taxes on this love offering of $500.00.

Love Offering Taxes

According to IRS 102 any amount over $25.00 that is donasted for services done( for example in Appreciation for his services) is considered taxable. Persons making the contribution must clearly define why the gift has been given for the sake of proper record keeping.

Taxability of Love Offerings
by: Marcus in Texas

If the money is donated for services rendered by the pastor then it is taxable income. This is reinforced if those who make the donations to the church claim the donations to the church as charitable deductions for tax purposes. It cannot be considered non-taxable income to the recipient if those who gave it plan to deduct their gifts from their own taxable income when they file their tax returns.
