How much of our remodel expense can be disignate as housing allownace

My minister husbands annual salary is $30,764. In 2016 we did home improvement/remodel to our kitchen and deck that total $40,000. We took out a home equity loan for that amount.

I work and my annual income is $36,000.00

How much of the remodel can be claimed as housing allowance for 2016. This is a usual year because of the remodel.

How much of our remodel expense can be designated as housing allowance?
by: Lewis in NC

If by Dec. 31, 2015 your church board had approved the remodeling expense as an extra amount for housing allowance for 2016, then all of it could have been part of the housing allowance, but since they didn't, none can be counted at this point. Sorry.

If you want to DIY your payroll, I highly recommend you look at using Gusto! It is very user friendly and their support is awesome! Plus they know how to set up and maintain payrolls for churches and nonprofit organizations.

Note: I am a "partner" of Gusto, but as I have told you before ... I never recommend anything that we or our clients have not tried and love =)
