I am a bivocational pastor of a small church. The church has grown to the point where they are able to start thinking about a small compensation package that would total about $1000 per month, consisting of a mix of housing allowance and medical expense reimbursements.
I have a very high deductible health insurance plan through the marketplace, and my understanding is that there are special rules for single employees with regards to medical reimbursements.
I would like to have a package that consists ONLY of housing allowance and medical reimbursement to avoid the church having to fill out a W-2. Is this feasible, and could someone advise the best way to go about this?
If you want to DIY your payroll, I highly recommend you look at using Gusto! It is very user friendly and their support is awesome! Plus they know how to set up and maintain payrolls for churches and nonprofit organizations.
Note: I am a "partner" of Gusto, but as I have told you before ... I never recommend anything that we or our clients have not tried and love =)
