I am interested in learning more about when a pastor is considered a minister as determined by the IRS.
I My full-time facilities manager has recently graduated with his ministry degree and is serving part-time as a campus pastor at one of our locations in a school on the weekends.
His job description defines his job as the Director of Facilities with campus pastor duties. The board of elders has commissioned him and he is licensed. He does perform all of the necessary ministerial functions as outlined by the IRS.
Does he qualify for the ministry housing allowance benefit if he is facilities director 75% of the time and campus pastor 25%? Or does his duties need to be more campus pastor and less facilities? or does he need to be full-time minister? Or does it matter?
Thanks for your help on this!
If you want to DIY your payroll, I highly recommend you look at using Gusto! It is very user friendly and their support is awesome! Plus they know how to set up and maintain payrolls for churches and nonprofit organizations.
Note: I am a "partner" of Gusto, but as I have told you before ... I never recommend anything that we or our clients have not tried and love =)
