Dual Status

If a minister opts out of the SS via IRS form 4361 does that mean they've opted out of the medicare as well. Also do they still retain dual status if they've opted out?

Yes, this would include Medicare because the application instructions say that the purpose is for "any" public insurance.

Yes, they would retain their dual-status (if they are qualified ministers) even if they opt out of paying SS taxes and receiving Social Security and Medicare benefits through their ministry income.

If you want to DIY your payroll, I highly recommend you look at using Gusto! It is very user friendly and their support is awesome! Plus they know how to set up and maintain payrolls for churches and nonprofit organizations.

Note: I am a "partner" of Gusto, but as I have told you before ... I never recommend anything that we or our clients have not tried and love =)
