Does a laptop computer purchase qualify as Housing Allowance?

I purchased a laptop computer primarily for use in my home. Does the money I spent on the laptop qualify to be counted as housing allowance?

Laptop and housing allowance

I would say that purchasing a laptop to be used at home would be no different than purchasing a clothes washer / dryer or a freezer with the allowance. These are all things that would be required in the 21st Century by the average family. As long as such purchases can be explained / justified should the IRS show up for an audit, there should be no problem with it.

If you want to DIY your payroll, I highly recommend you look at using Gusto! It is very user friendly and their support is awesome! Plus they know how to set up and maintain payrolls for churches and nonprofit organizations.

Note: I am a "partner" of Gusto, but as I have told you before ... I never recommend anything that we or our clients have not tried and love =)
