Disneyland Trip paid for by the Church

by Sarah

Our church has a Bible memorization of the book of John for the sunday school students. If the student can memorize the entire book without error then the church will provide a fully paid(airline, hotel, disneyland ticket) trip to Disneyland. Is the parent responsible to pay taxes on this? and what if some families have more than one child participating and receiving this trip?

page 5 of http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i1099msc.pdf

it looks like they might have to and the church would use a 1099 misc. box 3

interesting article: http://contests.about.com/od/vacationsweepstakes/f/Which-Taxes-Do-You-Pay-On-Vacation-Prizes.htm

I suggest calling the IRS
