capturing donor data

I am new at this and trying to establish some best practice guidelines.

Who is writing down/inputting the donor name, amount given, etc. The counters or the bookkeeper? Also, how are you capturing this data: directly into QuickBooks, an Excel spreadsheet, or?

Donor data

As treasurer I do not input the donor information nor do the counters. Our church secretary (15-20 hours per week employee)has this responsibility. I believe she uses some LOGOS church record keeping software to perform this job.
