what happens if you can't get the end of year statements out by January 31st

We sent most of the statements out by the end of January; however, some statements were sent out in February and unfortunately, a few were sent out the 1st week in March.

Can we get in trouble? Is there a law that states that all Church Contribution Statements must be out by January 31st?

(Answer)

There is no law that says you have to have your annual contribution letters out by a certain date.

Most churches just try to get them out by January 31st, so their members would have them for their tax preparation.

In my experience, if a member needed it early for their taxes, they will ask for them.

Hope this helps,

If you want to DIY your payroll, I highly recommend you look at using Gusto! It is very user friendly and their support is awesome! Plus they know how to set up and maintain payrolls for churches and nonprofit organizations.

Note: I am a "partner" of Gusto, but as I have told you before ... I never recommend anything that we or our clients have not tried and love =)
