I have a member who gave a large sum on January 4, 2010 from a Revocable Trust. He says he is able to claim this as a deduction for 2009 b/c it is from a Revocable Trust. Is this true? If so, should I just issue a receipt for his giving dated 1/4/2010 and he can bear the burden of proof w/his accountant or the government?
Answer
I am not familiar with the rules and regulations of a revocable trust, but I would just issue a receipt for the date you received it and then what he does with it would be between him and his accountant.
If you want to DIY your payroll, I highly recommend you look at using Gusto! It is very user friendly and their support is awesome! Plus they know how to set up and maintain payrolls for churches and nonprofit organizations.
Note: I am a "partner" of Gusto, but as I have told you before ... I never recommend anything that we or our clients have not tried and love =)
