Paying help

by Georgia

Our church recently paid two people to help around the church to assist with some projects we have going on. Both checks were under $400.00. when entering this on our monthly church report, will their pay go under Salaries or Building improvements? We are a very small church and use Excel for all our needs.

Thanks, GA

I would suggest that there is really no hard and fast rule exist that would dictate where this expense should be listed.

I believe you could list this expense under the budget item that might have the funds allocated for the activity. It does not sound like you did not do any pay roll processing so there would be no requirement to place under salaries.

If you want to DIY your payroll, I highly recommend you look at using Gusto! It is very user friendly and their support is awesome! Plus they know how to set up and maintain payrolls for churches and nonprofit organizations.

Note: I am a "partner" of Gusto, but as I have told you before ... I never recommend anything that we or our clients have not tried and love =)
