Pastor's Christmas Club

(Ga.)

As a church, we give towards a Christmas Club fund (in the General Fund) and at the end of the year we give the Pastor what was has been given for the year.

Is this okay, are the contributions tax deductible and is this something that should go towards his Income?

The advise you give can you back it up with documentation such as something form the IRS perhaps or a link?

Thanks

If the funds are given to the Church they would be tax deductible for the giver, and the funds given to the Pastor at Christmas time would be added to his W2 income as taxable income.

You can find documentation for this in Hammer's book and you will find documentation as well on this site.

If you want to DIY your payroll, I highly recommend you look at using Gusto! It is very user friendly and their support is awesome! Plus they know how to set up and maintain payrolls for churches and nonprofit organizations.

Note: I am a "partner" of Gusto, but as I have told you before ... I never recommend anything that we or our clients have not tried and love =)
