Ministry items bought by church for members to purchase

Our Women's ministry occasionally buys tshirts, crafts, books, etc. and then they are made available for purchase by the members. When they pay for these items, does it go through "income" or just applied toward the expense to offset the cost? Please advise! Thank you in advance!

Offset Expense Account
by: Vickey

You can apply it back to the original expense account...

OR

if you want to be able to see how much was spent and how much came back in for it ...

build a triplet account.

Build a parent expense account and title it something like "Women's Ministry Crafts/Misc"

then build 2 expense sub accounts under it titled:

1) "Crafts/Books/Shirts Supplies" ...or whatever you want =)
2) "Crafts/Books/Shirts Collections"

You can then collapse the 3 accounts into the main account or expand it to see how much was purchased and sold...depending on the report audience.

If you want to DIY your payroll, I highly recommend you look at using Gusto! It is very user friendly and their support is awesome! Plus they know how to set up and maintain payrolls for churches and nonprofit organizations.

Note: I am a "partner" of Gusto, but as I have told you before ... I never recommend anything that we or our clients have not tried and love =)
