Entering Donations in QuickBooks
by: Vickey

Don't enter donations as "Receive Payment"!

Just spent hours cleaning up a QuickBooks Online (QBO) file where someone did that =)

You will want to enter them as "Sales Receipts".

Now this isn't hard...but it involves setting up "Products and Services" in QBO or "Items" in QB Desktop...

depositing into "Undeposited Funds" and then

depositing a batch to match actual deposit ... in the appropriate bank account.

PLEASE purchase Lisa London's book on using QuickBooks for Churches. She has a version for QBO and Desktop.
The book will show you step by step how to enter donations and how to generate contribution statements. It is loaded with helpful tips and step by step instructions (with screen shots) on many other tasks you need to do as a church using QB. See more on her books on my QB page:

If you want to DIY your payroll, I highly recommend you look at using Gusto! It is very user friendly and their support is awesome! Plus they know how to set up and maintain payrolls for churches and nonprofit organizations.

Note: I am a "partner" of Gusto, but as I have told you before ... I never recommend anything that we or our clients have not tried and love =)
