CPE Units?

Hello, I was recently told that anyone handling church bookkeeping needs to have something like 21 units of CPE credits annually.

Can you help shed some light on this?

Answer

I have not heard of any such requirement.
Does anyone else know the answer? Face the same situation? Please post your answer or comment by using the "comment" link below. Thank you!

I heard that same thing...

...and I'm trying to find out if it's true or not, too. My Treasurer went to a meeting put on by a software company but disguised as an informational meeting for church business volunteers, and that where she heard this. So I'd love to know the answer also.

Not True
by: Jan B

Definitely not true or almost every church around would be in violation.

That said, I handle our churches books along with our Pastor's wife (volunteer basis) and I am an accountant but I haven't taken any kind of classes other than some updates on our CMS systems, QuickBooks etc.

We do have a CPA/Attorney who's specialty is non profits review our books every year so we're comfortable with our numbers.

If you want to DIY your payroll, I highly recommend you look at using Gusto! It is very user friendly and their support is awesome! Plus they know how to set up and maintain payrolls for churches and nonprofit organizations.

Note: I am a "partner" of Gusto, but as I have told you before ... I never recommend anything that we or our clients have not tried and love =)
