CHURCH REDIRECTS FUNDS

by Dan Edens
(Greenville, SC)

Can a church take money from a giver in a church contribution envelope designated by the giver for
the Church and redirect these funds by deacon vote
to a different ministry? The envelope had places to
designate up to twelve ministries?

Is this a violation of the antitrust laws?

Redirecting Funds

If the church does have a policy to allow them to redirect designated funds, the policy should be written as a side note on the offering envelopes with the "twelve items" on the referenced giving envelope. If this policy is not in place, then written or oral approval should be sought from the donor before redirecting any designated funds.

If you want to DIY your payroll, I highly recommend you look at using Gusto! It is very user friendly and their support is awesome! Plus they know how to set up and maintain payrolls for churches and nonprofit organizations.

Note: I am a "partner" of Gusto, but as I have told you before ... I never recommend anything that we or our clients have not tried and love =)
