What about if the gift is an item such as books?

If this is in reference to cash gifts and if the minister is employed by a church or some organization then the amount is added to the W-2 form in Box 1 with other compensation. If this is in reference to a self-employed minister, then the amount is add to the compensation reported on the 1099 form if it is equal to or over $600.
