web hosting with quickbooks

We currently are using Quickbooks Pro 2013 and go through a web hosting company to access QB. Is the web hosting necessary? There is of course a cost, and it seems very "touchy" and "glitchy". I am new to this position at my church of assisting/overseeing the bookkeeper ( who is also new in her position), so I am trying to look at all my options. In doing research, the online version of QB without a hosting site looks easier to work with. Any thoughts? Thank you

I have been using QB Online for apx 14 months and can say that I find QB & Payroll very satisfactory and most convenient to use. The availability has been nearly 100% of the time and am able to run from any PC I have access. That has allowed me to great flexibility to do my work. The level that I have subscribed allows 5 other people to have access from their own PCs at any time.

My difficulty was learning to use QB converting from simple Quicken. Improvement are being made often and I do not have to do any installs or updates to have use of the improvements.
