I handle payroll for our church, our last CPA reduced box 1 of the W-2 by the housing allowance amount and listed it in box 14. I moved over to intuit online payroll and they did not reduce box 1 by the housing allowance amount. Which is right?

W-2 Box1, Housing allowance

I have been using Intuit Online Payroll and QBO Payroll for probably 5 years now and the Housing Allowance has always shown up in Bow 14 labeled as Housing Allowance.
You should check on how you have your Payroll Set up.

Intuit Payroll Housing Allowance

It may not be a glitch in the payroll system. It may be in the payroll setup. Check how housing allowance was set up.

Your CPA is correct. The housing allowance is reported in Box 14...not is Box 1 of a W-2.
A lot of us use Intuit Payroll, so thank you for the heads up on a potential reporting error with that software.
