Retroactively Correcting Housing Allowance Designation

(NC)

If the minutes of church governing board in December 2015 or January 2016 incorrectly state that housing allowance is "$500 for 2016" but request and intent was "$500 per month for 2016" can governing board amend or correct the minutes retroactively (March 2017) to say $500 per month for 2016" after the mistake is discovered?

Housing Allowance
by: Anonymous

I moved out of a parsonage and into a home and updated my compensation form to include $15000 in housing expenses because I anticipated that much for the remainder of the year. The church is now only allotting $7500 because the form was annualized. My intent was for the full $15000 because I know it must be selected prospectively so I assumed it was an amount for the remainder of the year. I am being told I should have selected $30,000. This was an honest mistake. Can I get my W2 corrected to match my intent?

Correcting an error

Yes.
This is not a tax issue. it is simply correcting an administrative error.
