Pastor non church related Travel

If a Pastor is traveling because he was invited to be a speaker at another church which is covering airflight and acomidations. Does the local church have to reimburse for any aditional expenses an example is luggage. Is this legal?

Pastor unrelated travel

The church never has to reimburse a pastor for anything, most do as a benefit for church related activity. If it is unrelated and you do pay for it, the money would need to be added to his W-2 as other income. Most pastors are "dual employed" (employee of the church and self employed) and anything not reimbursed by the church that is allowable they can claim on their taxes.
