Readers should also be reminded this time of year to see your other Topic on 'Love Offerings or Donation'. Because the gifts are directed to an Individual (the Pastor), they are NOT tax deductible to the Donor. As a Treasurer, I try to steer our church away from this practice altogether. What individuals want to give to the Pastor on their own as a true gift is their business. But if a small church like ours tries to handle it through our existing processes, it is difficult enough to discern 'non-deductible' gifts for those who process the offerings and record the donations.

Who can direct the love offering
PPaul S
So if a donor gives a love offering the the church and no notation is noted, the funds go directly into the general checking account, so the donation is tax deductible. Who can direct the funds, in the form of a love offering, to the recipient.
If the answer here is the Pastor, who then would direct the funds if the Pastor is the recipient?
To be more direct .. is there a way for a donor to get the advantage of a tax deduction and have the donation be given to a specific recipient. Allowing that the recipient is willing to claim the funds to be taxed on
