I have been trying to find a definitive answer to this question.
I lead worship for a pastor friend of mine occasionally. I receive a check from the church for $40 each time.
Is this report-able misc income for me as far as taxes go?
Is there a limit as far as an amount where I do not have to claim?

You should be receiving an IRS 1099Form from the church for worship leader. The church is required to issue the form if you receive $600.00 or more per year from the church for worship leader.
