If the housing allowance is on the W2 do I still need to give them a letter for the amount of the allowance?

Housing Allowance Notification Letter or Box 14 on a W-2?
by: Vickey

The minister just needs to know the amount that was paid to him as a housing allowance for tax purposes, so if that amount is in Box 14 (informational box only) on their W-2, you would not need to send a notification letter too.

Do you have a sample of what the housing allowance notification should look like in lieu of using box 14 on the W2?

I have one, Sharon. Send me a message requesting it on my CONTACT ME form and I will send it to you =)

You can get to my "contact me" page on the very bottom of this page, in the blue box, in the SUPPORT line.

I will send you my Word document of that example of a housing allowance notification letter that all you will have to do is add your information to.

If you want to DIY your payroll, I highly recommend you look at using Gusto! It is very user friendly and their support is awesome! Plus they know how to set up and maintain payrolls for churches and nonprofit organizations.

Note: I am a "partner" of Gusto, but as I have told you before ... I never recommend anything that we or our clients have not tried and love =)
