CLERGY/PASTOR KNOWLEDGE OF GIVING

by WAYNE PETERSON
(AURORA, CO)

Having served as a Pastor for several years in large and small congregations ..........

It seems the Senior Pastor may want to know if his
leadership is truly "on board" by being a serious
contributor to the mission....... A range of giving discreetly shared by the Treasurer might be appropriate in knowing who, not only talks the walk, but "walks the walk" or has bought into the mission and the work.

If there is a "nominating committee", perhaps this
is something that could be handled by them, if this is a qualifying matter for serving on Boards where financial decisions are being made.

If a leader-member doesn't contribute to the work why would anyone want him/her in a position of deciding fiscal matters that effect everyone else?

PASTORS & GIVING

Pastors should stick to pastoring, teaching, delivering the word of God and sacraments. They should leave the money part to others, and should not have any knowledge of who does (or does not) give what, when or how much. It's irrelevant to his/her spiritual stewardship of the flock God has entrusted to him/her.
