Can home renovations be used for UMC household furnishings allowance?

We are planning on renovating the kitchen which would include new cabinets and counters. I have a housing allowance but am wondering if I can make use of household furnishing allowance for renovations.

Amend Housing Allowance
by: Vickey

You can request that your governing board would "amend" and increase your housing allowance, but remember that a housing allowance is NEVER retroactive!

So, don't do any of the reno until the amendment is done =)

Your tax professional should know how to handle an amended housing allowance as there are some extra steps they will have to take.

If you want to DIY your payroll, I highly recommend you look at using Gusto! It is very user friendly and their support is awesome! Plus they know how to set up and maintain payrolls for churches and nonprofit organizations.

Note: I am a "partner" of Gusto, but as I have told you before ... I never recommend anything that we or our clients have not tried and love =)
