Automobile Mileage

by Chin Li
(Bloomington, IL)

My church pays a mileage allowance at the federal standard rate for the pastor's automobile. It is a part of an accountable reimbursement plan for the business expenses. My question is whether the mileages to the church for Sunday services and the other special prayers or meetings at the church can be included in the reimbursement plan. Thank you.

To be safe mileage away from the church is deductible.

I cannot use mileage allowance to my work and neither should the pastor to his church.

If you want to DIY your payroll, I highly recommend you look at using Gusto! It is very user friendly and their support is awesome! Plus they know how to set up and maintain payrolls for churches and nonprofit organizations.

Note: I am a "partner" of Gusto, but as I have told you before ... I never recommend anything that we or our clients have not tried and love =)
