Retreat monies

The marriage leader from our church decided to pay in advance a deposit to the main speakers for our marriage retreat.

He also paid the deposit at the resort where the retreat will be held.

He brought me a ck stub for the payment to the guest speaker and for the deposit to the resort he brought me a printout of his bank transaction.

He wants this to be counted as a love offering to his account. How would I record this since the money didn't go through the church?

Advanced deposit for retreat

These transactions should be handled as reimburseable expenses of the church. The best approach is to write a check to the individual in the amount of the deposits - after you receive receipts proving that the payment was made.

Presumably the church will be made whole when it collects the fees from those attending the retreat.
