Not Bad

Fairly easy to input information, but difficult to find the exact report you're looking for. I do like that it does payroll and calculates taxes. It isn't compatible with Outlook, so emails have to be entered separately. Seems as though there are a lot of steps to get where you need to be - but since I have only used this one I'm not sure there is a better one out there.

Very dissatisfied.

Our accounting people are satisfied with the program, but everyone else at our church is beyond frustrated. The more modules you activate the more convoluted it becomes. We own every module they sell. We have several years of effort and several thousands of dollars invested. This tremendous investment has become a costly mistake. We're exploring our options, but for the moment we're still saddled with it.

This is the best church management software I have used or seen. All facets of managing your congregation, finance, contributions and facilities are covered.

We have used this for about seven years now and I have not seen anything better on the market. The support for this product is exceptional and the training sessions they provide are excellent. Although it does require quite an investment on the financial side it is well worth it.

It can be a cumbersome program if not learned properly. At our church we instituted the Membership/attendance module the first year. The second year we moved on to contributions as well as payroll. The third year we fully implemented the accounting side of the program.

We also use the roommate module but mostly for tracking our inventory. I would strongly recommend this software for any church of any size while at the same time cautioning you to take it slow to cut down the frustration aspect of the program.

The Best I found

I experimented with about 10 church mgmt programs (Church Windows, AST, Logos, Power Church Plus, Church Pro,Membership Plus, Servant PC,Church Helpmate, Excellerate, and a few others)for about 6 months and finally decided on CDM+. We purchased 5 modules and dived in because we wanted a one stop program to manage everything. The basis for our decision is as follows:
1) I asked a ton of questions to their sales department and they always answered in a positive manner, never seemed to get frustrated with the number of calls I made or the number of questions.
2) The cost was middle of the road. There are many programs in the $300 to $500 range and then some in the $3000 - $5000. CDM+ was in the $1500 - $2000 range.
3) The learning curve was short. I worked several weeks with trial version and thought it was user friendly.
We have had the program for 5 years & here's our evaluation.
1) Our office workers picked up the program very quickly. We took advantage of the online training classes. Program is very flexible, many user defined codes, custom reports...more than we will ever use.
2) Technical support is outstanding, usually get a call back within an hour. They are good people to work with.
3) Free upgrades to new versions.
Now for the downside:
1)There are many report options. Sometimes it is difficult to know which reports to run to get particular information. If you don't set the report up right you could get bad data. Usually we call technical support to get them to help us set up the report.

forum and fund accounting issues

We have used CDM+ for several years for registrations, and fund accounting.

We really are struggling with getting a fund activity report, as it doesn't let you select the fund accounts using that report wizard.

Question for current users

In your experience, is it possible to record an in-kind contribution in CDM? Say, a member purchases items on behalf of the church and provides a valid receipt, is it possible to record the in-kind transaction by charging the expense and have the offset to revenue instead of to cash? The member does not want to exchange checks.

Hard to use!

We have used CDM plus for five years. It is very hard to learn. You have to wait for return calls, Frequent updates that always seem to happen on a Friday causing problems on Sunday morning. Reports are hard to find. If you want to learn how to use the program you have to pay 200 plus dollars to go to a seminar that seems to never be in our state. That is why I am researching other programs.

Really like it

We have been using CDM Plus for almost 10 years. I was not on the team when we first got it, so I learned it on my own. I principally use it for contributions and accounting. I think it is great, support has been great. I find it to be flexible and difficult to 'screw up'.

I have been using this for approximately 14 years. It is a full accounting program. We use the contributions, membership, payroll and accounting programs.

When you do payroll it automatically puts the figures into the accounting program. When I make reports I also have to make a balance sheet.

Some on our Session get confused about that however, I tell them they have to look at the balance sheet to know what balances are in the account and look at the financial reports with that balance sheet.

We thought about getting something else as the cost for the yearly support is a little over $400.00 (which also includes upgrades).

I'm not sure what others charge for support and if you have to purchase a new program every few years. This program you buy once and just do the upgrades.

I have had very little problem with customer support. If I call earlier in the day they usually get back to me within a couple hours or less. I would like someone other than me to learn the program. It is very involved and would take a little bit to train someone. Overall I like the program because it is so comprehensive.
